Bethany Handfield is an encaustic and mixed media collage artist who is inspired by exterior and interior landscapes and views painting as a form of inquiry and meditation. She loves to incorporate found and up-cycled materials into her encaustic paintings, giving them a second life. Having previously worked in the Vancouver film industry as an editor for film and television, Bethany now resides in the Okanagan area of British Columbia.
Her encaustic instruction is ongoing with the amazing artist, teacher, and friend Thea Haubrich of Twin Lakes Encaustic. She has been fortunate to also study encaustic with Anna Maria Aigner of Austria and Linda Womack of Portland, Oregon. She is self-taught, but inspired by many, in the field of mixed media collage.
A huge believer in the gifts of volunteerism and community involvement, she is a member of the of the International Encaustic Artists - CanWax chapter (Newsletter Director 2012/2013), the Penticton & District Community Arts Council (Board Member 2011/2012), and the Federation of Canadian Artists - South Okanagan Similkameen Chapter (Secretary 2010/2012 & Membership Chair 2012/2013).
